My newest birds are full of shimmer and sparkle. All ready for holiday shopping.

Come out and see me at the Lewis Holiday Bazaar & Tree Sale on Saturday, Dec 7th from 10a.m. to 4p.m.

I have lots of sweet little birds for decorating your house year round and for the holidays. My newest birds have holiday lyrics from the vintage sheet music that I use and shimmery paints that will add the bling to your holiday decorations!Bizarre-Date-Photo

New fat birds

I love Dawn’s new birds … they’re bigger and fatter. Birds are probably the only things that appreciate those two descriptive adjectives. Cherry is my favorite!photo copy 3 photo copy photo

Little birds

I generally consider myself a watercolor artist. However after taking classes at Art & Soul Art Retreats over the years and online from such lovely women as Kelly Rae Roberts, Misty Mawn, & DJ Pettit, I have turned much more to mixed-media.

About a year ago I decided, out of the blue, to create paper clay birds. I started with good, old balloons and paper mache – just like in grade school and recently used the same materials for my son when he created the planet mars for science class.

I found that I needed to create a mold of several birds and consulted my brother Greg who is a sculptor living in Boston.
UPS brought me molding products & I set off to find a recipe of my own for paper clay. Egg cartons seemed to be the easiest to dissolve and I mixed up my 1st batch that included powered ceramic clay.
These paper clay birds dried in the sun & then later on the heat vent (Oregon rain … you know)
I tried various recycled paper including maps & bits of pattern pieces but ended up with vintage sheet music collaged over each bird.

I painted each bird using gesso & acrylic (not my favorite). Next step? Wings … which I created using vintage fabric, lace, ribbons, vintage buttons & jewelry. Each bird came to life as an individual creation with it’s own personality. I even had a parrot but my preference is chickadees, & sparrows so the parrot sits in a pile in my studio.

Here are pic’s of my newest little birdies-
